VENUE : AT-TABARI

Memory Learning And Improving Concerntration

Overview :

  •  Understanding Memory Process
  •  Memory Strategies
  •  Understanding Concentration
  • Strategies to Improve concentration
  • Reading / Study System SQ3R

MEMORY VS BRAIN

MEMORY IS THE ABILITY OF AN INDIVIDUAL TO ENCODE, STORE ,AND RETRIEVE INFORMATION (LIKE COMPUTER SOFTWARE)

BRAIN IS AN ORGAN. (COMPUTER HARDWARE)

BRAIN

  • BRAIN IS ONE OF THE LARGEST AND MOST COMPLEX ORGAN IN THE HUMAN BODY
  • ITS IS MADE UP OF MORE THAN 100 BILLION NERVES THAT COMMUNICATE IN TRILLIONS OF CONNECTION CALLED SYNAPES

                ANALOGI

  • ANALOGI SEPERTI SEBUAH KOMPUTER
  • BERIKAN CONTOH KOMPONEN-KOMPONEN YANG ADA PADA SEBUAH KOMPUTER DAN APAKAH KOMPONEN KOMPUTER TERSEBUT YANG SEAKAN-AKAN ADA PADA MANUSIA ?

          ANALOGI KOMPUTER

  •   ENCODING / INPUT (COMPUTER-KEYBOARD , CAMERA ; HUMAN- THE 5 SENSE; EARS, MOUTH, NOSE, SKIN, EYES)

  • STORAGE ( COMPUTER- HARD DISK , THUMB DRIVE;HUMAN- 3 TYPES OF MEMORY-SM,STM,LTM)

  • RETRIEVAL /OUTPUT(COMPUTER- COMPUTER SCREEN , PRINTER; HUMAN-WRITING, TALKING)

THE STORAGE(RETAIN INFORMATION)

SENSORY MEMORY (SM)

  1. ESSENTIALLY, OUR SENSES (VISION, HEARING, SMELL , TASTE AND TOUCH) ARE ALWAYS VERY BUSY. WE HEAR SEE, SMELL, TASTE AND TOUCH HUNDREDS OF STIMULI EACH MOMENT
  2. MOST OF THESE STIMULI ARE UNIMPORTANT AND ARE THERFORE QUICKLY FORGOTTEN. HOWEVER, SOME STIMULI ARE IMPORTANT TO US AND WORTH REMEMEBERING, BUT WE HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION TO THEM OR ARE QUICKLY FORGOTTEN.
  3. ATTENTION IS CRITICAL TO THE FUNCTIONING OF THE SENSORY REGISTERs.

SHORT-TERM MEMORY (STM)

  1.  ONCE YOU DECIDE YOU WANT TO REMEMBER SOMETHING, YOU IMMEDIATELY HAVE TO MOVE IT INTO SHORT-TERM MEMORY
  2. HOWEVER, TO DO THIS, THE MATERIAL MUST BE ENCODED: YOU MUST MAKE IT MEANINGFUL
  3. SHORT-TERM MEMORY HAS TWO COMPONENT; IMMEDIATE MEMORY AND WORKING MEMORY
  4. IMMEDIATE MEMORY IS RELATED TO THE CIONCEPT OF CONSCIOUSNESS
  5. WORKING MEMORY. TO HOLD ON TO INFORMATION AND GET IT INTO YOUR LONG TERM MEMORY , YOU MUST FIRST MOVE THE MATERIAL INTO THE OTHER PART OF YOUR SHORT-TERM MEMORY, THE WORKING MEMORY
LONG-TERM MEMORY (LTM)

  1. ONCE INFORMATION HAS BEEN PROCESSED IN WORKING MEMORY , IT CAN BE MOVED INTO LONG-TERM MEMORY
  2. LONG-TERM MEMORY HAS AN ALMOST UNLIMITED CAPACITY. WE HAVE NOT YET DISCOVERED ANYONE WHO HAS COMPLETELY FILLED HIS OR HER LTM
  3. IN FACT, THE MORE WE LEARN, THE MORE CAPACITY FOR LEARNING WE APPEAR TO HAVE
  4. BUILDING LONG-TERM MEMORIES APPEARS TO PROVIDE A STRUCTURE FOR ADDING NEW MEMORIES.
  5. FOR EXAMPLE, YOYU COULDN'T IDENTIFY A CLOUD SHAPED LIKE AN ELEPHANT IF YOU DIDIN'T ALREADY HAVE PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF AN ELEPHANT IN YOUR LTM

FORGOT AND REMEMBER

WHY WE FORGOT THINGS EASILY ?

  • DISTRACTION
  • FOCUS

  • TIME FACTOR

WE WILL EASY TO REMEMBER IF :

  • DO REPETITION

  • DO A REHEARSAL ON SOMETHING

MEMORY STRATEGY

  1. MNEOMICS - MEMORY TRICKS , MAKE IT FUNNY

2.  ELABORATION STRATEGIES
  • ACRONYNMS
    EXAMPLE :

JPA ; JABATAN PERKHIDMATAN AWAM  ,
PTAR ; PERPUSTAKAAN TUN ABDUL RAZAK

  • ACROSTIC

  • IMAGERY

3. REHEARSAL

CAUSES OF POOR CONCENTRATION :
  1.  LACK OF ATTENTION
  2. LACK  OF INTEREST
  3. LACK OF MOTIVATION
  4. DISTRACTION FROM OTHERS
  5. UNCOMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT
  6. PHYSIOLOGICAL MATTERS- ILNESSES, TIREDNESS
  7. PHYSCOLOFICAL MATTERS- PERSONAL PROBLEMS, WORRIES, ANXIETIES

SQ3R :SURVEY-QUESTION-READ RECITE REVIEW

  • SURVEY - MEMBUAT TINJAUAN UNTUK MENDAPATKAN GAMBARAN SECARA KESELURUHAN MENGENAI SESUATU TAJUK
  • QUESTION - MELALUI PEMBACAAN, CUBA UNTUK MEMBUAT SOALAN AGAR FIKIRAN SENTIASA MENCARI JAWAPAN
  • READ-  BACA PERENGGAN UNTUK MAKLUMAT
  • RECITE- RINGKASKAN SESUATU MAKLUMAT. FOKUS PADA ISI-ISI PENTING
  • REVIEW - MENGULANGKAJI , LIHAT NOTA SEMULA , NOTA YANG RINGKAS DAN PADAT MUDAH UNTUK DIINGATI
